WNY Maritime Middle School Full Remote Plan
WNY Maritime Middle School Full Remote Plan
- Purpose: The purpose of this plan is to lay out the procedures and expectations for middle school students and parents to follow in the event that the school must go to full-remote instruction. The school intends to stay open for in person instruction during any designation of Buffalo as a yellow zone and is working with health authorities to procure necessary COVID testing resources to do so. If Buffalo is designated as an orange or red zone, this plan would go into effect until rescinded by official notification from the school. Please make sure that we have accurate phone numbers and emails to contact you in order to keep you advised of changing conditions.
Computing Device Loan: If you require a computing device and/or wifi hotspot for use during full remote instruction please go to the following website to sign up: Chromebook Waiting List Sign up Form which can also be found on our website under our News page and under the
Learning Model:
-Mondays: students will complete online assignments asynchronously if any are assigned by teachers during class the previous week. Mondays will also be dedicated to a short meeting with mentors as well as support classes such as reading, resource or English as a second language as applicable (see schedule at end of this document). Mondays are also available for teachers to arrange additional help sessions with select students.
-Tuesdays and Thursdays: students will follow their currently assigned class schedule that aligns with days 1,3 and 5 in accordance with the time schedule at the bottom of this document.
-Wednesdays and Fridays: students will follow their currently assigned class schedule that aligns with days 2,4 and 6 in accordance with the time schedule at the bottom of this document.
-From Tuesday-Friday, students will sign into google classroom in accordance with their schedule and then sign into the Google Meet to meet live with their teacher and class and receive instruction for that class period. Attendance will be taken each and every period and student grades will be based upon their performance during these class sessions which will include assignments that will be designed to be completed during the scheduled class time. Students not properly attending class or not doing their classwork will fall under the discipline policy the same as if the school were conducting in person instruction.
Keeping parents informed about academic progress: Students will continue to receive progress reports and report cards. Teachers will also reach out to struggling students. However we strongly encourage parents to have their student show them their Google Classrooms each day and for parents to go to our website www.wnymcs.com and follow the instructions for accessing the parent portal which shows student information in terms of grades, assignments, discipline and attendance. You also can find your student’s class schedule listing all email addresses for teachers.
