Academic Review Board (ARB)
WNY Maritime Charter School provides a safety net with 1:1 meetings or panel meetings to find out why a cadet is not succeeding in school. As we hold high academic standards above and beyond what NY State outlines as a "passing grade," cadets who do not achieve a 70% or higher in all courses for each 5 week grading period, are placed on the Academic Review Board list. This list is divided up among key staff and administration to orchestrate solution-focused meetings to learn why a cadet is working below standards.
Mandatory interventions include 9th period remediation, being placed on a no-pass list in order to not miss any class time, limited or suspended school activities or sports team participation, library support with our supervisory staff, mentor support from an upperclassman, or other supports to help make the cadet successful.
An ARB plan of attack is created for each cadet, often times with a signed contract, and/or interventions are created to hold cadets accountable as we monitor their progress for the next 5 week block of their academics. Cadets who step up and achieve above standard grades are always reviewed for possible clemency (to get off of the ARB list).
