Dear Maritime Families: As you might imagine, things continue to be very busy as we develop plans to reopen schools in September. On Monday, school districts across the state received guidance documents from the Board of Regents, the New York State Department of Education, and the New York State Department of Health. Based upon all of these documents, we are developing plans for in-person learning to begin in September. The Governor has stated that if a region is in Phase IV and the infection rate in that region stays below 5%, schools will reopen for in person instruction. The infection rate in Western New York is currently around 1% so we are on track for reopening. The guidance we are receiving from the NYS Department of Health will require students to wear masks or cloth face coverings when social distancing of at least 6 feet is not possible. Acceptable face coverings for Covid-19 include, but are not limited to, cloth-based face coverings and surgical masks that cover both the mouth and nose. Additionally, students must wear a face covering to ride the school bus, including NFTA busses, and wear it while entering and exiting our schools. We are also developing plans for face covering breaks for students when they are engaged in meals and classroom instruction. These face covering breaks will occur when individuals are able to socially distance and/or when there is a physical barrier available. As we work to finalize our reopening plans we will be sending more information to you via email as well as posting our plans to the District’s website. Our final plans are due to the New York State Education Department at the end of this month. Thank you for reviewing this posting and please stay tuned for more information in the days and weeks ahead.
Parents and Guardians of our Charter School Students,
The NYSED Charter School Office recognizes that parents and guardians play a vital role in this process and therefore we are seeking to learn from you what went right and what can be improved with regard to your children’s education during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In order to learn directly from you, we have created a brief survey. Anonymity is assured so please be comfortable providing any honest feedback you feel is appropriate. We believe your input is essential to inform both policy and practice as we move toward the re-opening of our schools.
In leading up to our Graduation ceremony this coming Friday, we are releasing the Commencement Speech that would have been given in person. Our speaker is a Maritime graduate who has gone on to serve our country and is currently on the front lines as a Texas State Trooper. We thank you for your USAF service for our country and your continued service as a State Trooper.
Below is his biography and a link to his video speech.
If you are a Cadet over the age of 14, you can fill in the required form to obtain your working papers on the Candidate and Cadet page of our website. Please follow all submission directions carefully.
Hello Maritime Families, With the Governor's latest update closing New York schools for the rest of the year we want to let you know that we are working hard to develop plans on finishing up the school year and will release details early next week.
While this year ended in a way none of us could have ever imagined, now is the time to take full advantage of the opportunity to finish and graduate or move up to the next grade. Our teachers are working diligently to ensure all students can complete the assignments given the current situations and are being very generous in their grading. If students are not passing their online assignments, there is a chance they will not move on to the next grade or graduate. Students are fully expected to continue their online classwork and participate, log in to Google Classroom or Schoology on a daily basis, stay in touch with their teachers, and reach out for help as soon as they need it.
Thank you, stay home, stay safe, and stay healthy.
Hello Maritime Families, This is a reminder that while Regents exams are no longer required, candidates and cadets are required to complete all assignments during this time in order to pass their classes. Your child should be logging in daily, maintaining teacher contact, and submitting their assignments as directed. If a student is receiving packets, they need to submit pictures to their teachers. Parents, please continue logging in to Parent Portal to monitor your child's grades and help them stay up to date and connected. If you have any issues, please contact the school immediately. Thank you, stay safe and healthy, and we hope we can see you soon.
Our teachers and administrators did department Zoom meetings to send messages to our kids. That video is being edited so a quick “We miss you!” video. We hope to see you again very soon but for now, keep working hard and staying safe and healthy.
Hello Maritime families, We hope you are all doing well, staying home, and staying healthy. We all miss our Candidates and Cadets very much and cannot wait to see them. However, with the Governors extention today of the New York Pause, we are now required to stay closed until May 15th. With this change, students should plan on coming back to the school building on Monday May 18th, 2020. Until then, please be sure you are checking in with all of your teachers and getting your assignments done every day so you can still graduate or move to the next grade. We know this uncertainty is hard to deal with, we feel it too, but keep going forward with your studies so you are ready to come back just as soon as we can. Thank you and stay safe and healthy.
